CAAM denied reception of four foreign associations' appealing letter

Shi Jianhua, Vice General Secretary of CAAM, denied the authority had received the appealing letter by four global auto associations. It is reported that in the letter, global vehicle manufacturers appealed to delay and soften proposals for electric and hybrid car quotas.

The carbon quota plan refers to an exposure draft released in September, 2016 by Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, demanding that score proportion for alternative energy vehicles should reach 8%, 10% and 12% respectively from 2018 to 2020. In the meanwhile, auto fuel consumption should be related to the score.

In other words, PHEV and BEV models should account for at least 1/5 of total new vehicles, with the quota system starting in 2018. The left 6 months give much pressure to multi-national auto companies, which have not prepared themselves yet.

Although no detailed information confirms the above news, it can be predicted that overseas auto companies have underestimated Chinese government’s determination in developing alternative energy vehicles and energy-saving vehicles, as well as great pressure in competing with self-independent brands in domestic market.
