North Carolina’s Edgecombe County will build a manufacturing training centre at Kingsboro to provide a trained workforce for Triangle, as part of its agreement with Chinese tyre manufacturer.
The state’s non-profit group Golden LEAF Foundation said it has given a $10 million grant to construct and equip the training center that will be owned and operated by Edgecombe Community College.
ECC president Deborah Lamm said: “The new advanced manufacturing center will enable college personnel to provide innovative pre-employment training for prospective employees and cutting-edge retooling and training for current employees to guarantee they meet the skill sets required by Triable Tire.”
Prior to the $10 million grant for the building of the training center, Golden LEAF gave a $7 million grant toward the water and sewer infrastructure at the Kingsboro megasite where Triangle will locate its tyre plant.
State officials said Triangle’s nearly $580 million investment is the largest investment in rural North Carolina to date.
