Continental Thailand tire plant breaks ground

Foreign media report went that the new tire plant invested by the Continental in Rayong, Thailand, has broke ground.

It is the 6th production base in Asia, and the 22th in the world, of the company, with an overall investment of 265 million US dollars.

The plant in Thailand is scheduled to start production in 2019 and the preliminary output will be 4 million passenger car and pick-up tires annually.

The project is expected to create about 900 jobs.

It is another key deployment by the Continental in Asia-Pacific regions in the wake of the 3rd-phase project in Hefei, China, this year.

The 3rd-phase expansion project in Hefei officially started production on Mar. 28.

The Hefei plant received an overall investment of some 570 million euros and employed about 2,700 workers.

By 2019, the Chinese plant’s output will reach 14 million tires from current 8 million.
