“Over the past few years, under the frameworks of the Belt and Road Initiative and China-Africa Cooperation Forum, the Ministry of Agriculture has accelerated the progress for cooperating with Africa,” said Bi Meijia, member of the leading party group of the Ministry of Agriculture, on Dec. 11 in Haikou, Hainan province.
The fourth China-Africa Agricultural Cooperation Seminar was held that day in Haikou.
He Xiqing, vice governor of Hainan province, said the province has launched Congo (Brazzaville) Agricultural Technology Demonstration Center and is boosting the Sierra Leone rubber and rice planting and processing program.
The foreign cooperation demonstration base of Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricutural Sciences in Qionghai has also been involved in China’s 10 national pilot zones for agricultural opening up and cooperation.
The Ministry of Agriculture has trained 4,980 agricultural officials and technicians from 54 African countries since 2006. China has invested over 1 billion US dollars in the agriculture industry in Africa. The Ministry aims to send 10 teams of agricultural experts in 2018 and train 800 Africans.
