299 chemical firms in Shandong to be closed down

According to Shandong Provincial Administration of Work Safety, after the safety grading, environmental protection grading, energy-conservation grading and comprehensive assessment over chemical enterprises in Linyi, Rizhao and Qingdao cities, a total of 299 enterprises were graded as “bad”.

Currently, all these enterprises have stopped production.

SPAWS said if nothing else happened, all these enterprises will be eliminated completely.

Liu Baosheng, secretary general of Shandong Society of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, said Linyi is a most important destination of chemical industrial inspection.

Most of the 100 enterprises to be closed down are in the sectors of fertilizer, chemical processing, formaldehyde, and plastics.

As of July 21, Linyi had taken actions to stop and rectify the production of 162 chemical enterprises, and zero tolerance over safety issues has become a new normal.

Liu said many small chemical enterprises failed to meet the safe management rules or to obey the rules.

Wang Yundong, head of the Management Committee of Jining Chemical Industrial Park, said it is necessary to stimulate industrial upgrade, ensure safe production, thus to form a benign cycle for sustainable improvement.

Shandong province schedules to close down, transfer, or move all hazardous chemicals programs outside chemical industrial parks to professional parks, and permit no new programs outside the parks.

So far, there are 28 programs in Jining Chemical Industrial Park, including 15 under construction with an overall investment of 5.86 billion yuan.
