Tokyo Commodity Exchange (TOCOM) futures for February delivery on Tuesday finished 1.9 yen, or 1.2%, higher at 163.8 yen per kg as Shanghai prices gained. The most-active rubber contract on the Shanghai futures exchange for September delivery rose 1.4% to 11,535 yuan per tonne by 0700 GMT. TOCOM's TSR 20 futures contract for February delivery closed unchanged at 141 yen per kg. The front-month rubber contract on Singapore's SICOM exchange for September delivery recently traded at 128.9 US cents per kg unchanged from the previous close.
The US dollar was quoted around 105.67, compared with around 106.12 yen on Monday afternoon. Oil prices were higher with Brent up by 0.3% and US crude gaining 0.2%. Japan's benchmark Nikkei stock average ended trading 1% higher.
