Hutchison Ports Pakistan (HPP), the operator of South Asia Pakistan terminals, is going to purchase 24 remote-controlled rubber-tired gantry cranes (RTGCs), and eight new remote controlled quay cranes from a Chinese company.
In this regard an agreement was signed on Tuesday, between Hutchison Ports Pakistan (HPP) and Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co Ltd, China (ZPMC) for the supply of these cranes.
The agreement was signed by HPP General Manager Captain Syed Rashid Jamil and ZPMC Vice President Shan Jianguo in the presence of Counsel General People’s Republic of China in Karachi Wang Yu and Karachi Port Trust (KPT) Chairman Rear Admiral Jamil Akhtar.
The cranes will significantly increase the overall efficiency of operations of the terminal which has 18-metre draft and could accommodate mother ships which are now in vogue around the world and considered to be meeting the economies of scale.
