Michelin, Continental, Kumho Tire Are Doing…

Four industrial standards of RFID electronic labels approved by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will be implemented officially from July 1.

The standards regulate the function, performance, way of embedment, and coding methods of RFID electronic labels, so as to ensure the security of tires after the embedment.

Integrating standards will accelerate the promotion of the technology in the industry and boost rapid development of China’s smart tire sector.

In view of global development, tire producers, including Michelin, the Continental Group, and Kumho Tire, have taken a leading role in the market and Michelin plans to have all its tires embedded with RFID labels before the end of this year.

Tire is a key part of a vehicle that decides the driving safety with its performance and condition.

By embedding with RFID electronic labels, smart tires will transmit information about the pressure, temperature and wear to the controlling system and upload to the cloud server, drivers are able to get the real-time information and ensure safe driving.

Entering into the driverless era, smart tire will become a standard configuration with huge development potential.

In our daily life, RFID technology has been widely applied in logistics, manufacturing, identity recognition, asset management, and smart transport. But it hasn’t been promoted effectively in China’s tire industry.

As a “wireless” version of tire barcode, RFID technology is water proof, magnetism proof, high temperature resistance with longer life cycle, longer effective reading distance, etc.

RFID technology binds or records the information about tire manufacturing, sales, use, renewal and obsolescence. It’s like a unique ID card of a tire.

The “ID card” allows companies collect and read relevant terminal data at any time, record and trace back the data of a tire’s life cycle with relevant management software.

MESNAC is one of the drafters of the four standards and it has more than 10 years’accumulation in RFID smart tire technology.

The company plans to invest 140 million yuan in establishing a smart tire technology center, which is expected to produce 120 million RFID electronic labels for tire use and to offer big data services.

In addition, Sailun Jinyu Group has successfully devised its RFID smart tire model.
