GM Reports New July Sales Record in China

Today, August 6th, GM reported July sales in China up 15%, due to strong demand for its brands.
 
GM and its joint ventures in the country reached a new July record with 199,503 vehicles sold. Shanghai GM sold 97,064 units, up 5.7%, SAIC-GM-Wuling’s sales increased 26.6% to 98,694 units and FAW-GM sold 3,379 units, an increase of 3.1%. The auto maker sold 52,691 Buicks, up 4.8%, the original Excelle family sold 21,727 units, up 18.2% and the Excelle XT and GT reached sales up 27.6%.
 
The only GM brand that saw sales decrease was Chevrolet, down 2.8% in China to 44,864 units. Sales of the New Sail were up 30.1%, the Cruze up 5.5%, the Cadillac sold 2,017 units, led by sales of the SRX luxury utility vehicle. Wuling sales were up 32.7% to 94,178 units and the Baojun 630 sedan managed to sell 2,008 units in its first July in the market.
 
Last week GM, the largest US car maker, reported US July sales down 6.4% to 201,237 units, due to decreased sales to rental fleet customers. From January to July, GM sold 1.62 million units in China, up 11.7% compared to the same period last year.
