FSC forges China's F1 "Dream work"

When Rosberg got the first championship in his F1 career in Shanghai, Yan Jianlai,general superintendent in Formula SAE of China (FSC), was busy preparing for 2012’s FSC, a big “F1 feast” for university students in China.
FSC, an up-rising star in China
FSC is a comprehensive competition. The contestants have to accomplish every segment of the operation, including designing and building the race car, even running the car on road. The whole competition period lasts for about one year.
It is the third FSC this year, Yan said, at the very beginning, there were only 20 universities participating in the race. But, now there are 44 universities attending the race, which started attracting Chinese auto makers’ eyeballs.
Actually, this race, originating from USA in 1979, has been extended to Britain, Brazil, Italy, Japan, Germany, Australia, etc. by 2009.
Especially in Japan, the race has become the biggest of its kind in Asia Pacific region. Participators have increased to 85 teams from 2003’s 17 teams.
“Rising up Backbone” ????
As “Top Project” in Society of Automotive Engineers of China (SAE-China), FSC seems to be endowed an important historical mission – picking up the best talent for Chinese auto industry.
“We are rising up Backbones for Chinese auto industry’s future.” Yan said.
Usually, China’s auto industry lagged down at the stage of talents’ education, compared to abroad, he explained, the race is a good way to make up the regret.
FSC plans to gradually open to overseas participators after 2013, Yan said, there will be about 60 to 80 teams joining in the race by then.
