Continental doubles production capacity in Hefei

Continental Tire Group AG broke recently started its expansion project in Hefei, capital city of Anhui Province in China. The project calls for a 134 million euro investment, and plans to increase its production capacity from 4 million to 8 million passenger car tires per year.
The first phase of Continental’s Hefei plant, breaking ground in May 2011, plans to produce 4 million tires every year and come into fully operational by the end of 2012.
After completion, tires produced from Hefei plant will mainly supply to China and other Asian markets, said Tobias Kerle, general manager of Hefei plant in Continental Tire Group.
Amongst, two tailor-made tires for Chinese market - ContiComfortContact 5 (2011) and ContiMaxContact 5 (2012) – will come into mass production in Hefei plant, Tobias said.
“Asia is one of our key growth markets, and our investment in Hefei plant is a major step into this direction”, said Burkhardt Koeller, Executive Vice President of Tire Business Department in Continental.
