BAIC mulls over buying Saab, report

Chinese automaker BAIC is mulling over buying the remaining assets of Swedish automaker Saab Auto, together with Japan's Matsushita Group, according to a report published on auto.gasgoo.com.
Representatives of BAIC had arrived in Sweden for negotiations, said the report. But no further details were provided.

Early media reports said Saab has dropped the offer of China's Zhejiang Youngman Lotus Automobile, which planned to acquire Saab at a price of about 446 million US dollars. But the information has not been verified by Saab or its stakeholders.

Saab filed for bankruptcy on December 19, 2011, while the liquidation of Saab's debt is scheduled to start from April of 2012.

BAIC has set its annual sales target at 1.80 million units for 2012. The automaker sold some 1.542 million motor vehicles in 2011, with operating turnover and profits at 201 billion yuan and 15.8 billion yuan respectively.
