Coming China VI Emission Standard makes self-independent auto companies face technological upgrade tests

Although China V Emission Standard has just been implemented across the nation, Chia VI Emission Standard is facing its countdown. Currently, reporters got news that Beijing Environmental Protection Bureau confirms that Beijing will implement China VI Emission Standard from January 1st, 2017. However, according to the Ministry of Environmental Protection, VI Emission Standard will be implemented in 2020.

Experts from the industry all agree that the implementation of VI Emission Standard will start the complete upgrading of current models and auto companies will face increasing costs. Currently, some self-independent auto companies have great difficulties in handling V Emission Standard, let alone the VI standard.

A person in charge of the research center of an auto company said that the upgrading emission standard increases several hundred million RMB R&D and investment fees. Apart from the upgrading technologies, it will take at least one year to meet the products’ production and certification.

Data shows that VI standard changes I-type test cycle and is stricter with the pollutant emission limits. Besides, it introduces the RDE in European VI Emission Standard. It’s predicted that the particulate emissions from gasoline vehicles will decrease 10% and Nitrogen oxide emissions from diesel engine cars will decrease 4.6%. Facing the overall systematic upgrading, researching and developments on new models will face severe tests in costs and time.

Some analysts believe that joint-venture brands will be easier in technological upgrading when China VI Emission Standard introduces some provisions from European VI Emission Standard. However, self-independent brands may face great difficulties for not meeting standards.

It's noticed that only three years are left for auto companies from Beijing's implementation of VI standard to the national popularization. It’s undoubted that domestic auto companies will face more pressure in the current market.
