China decides not to renew tariffs on U.S.-made vehicles

China's commerce ministry has decided not to renew punitive tariffs imposed on vehicles exported from the United States after the tariffs expired on November 14.

The ministry said last week that it took no action because no domestic Chinese companies applied for a review of the tariff before it expired.

On December 15, 2011, China imposed two-year anti-dumping duties ranging up to 34 percent on some U.S. vehicle exports. The tariffs were in retaliation for punitive duties that the Obama administration levied on tire imports from China.

China’s tariffs applied to sedans and SUVs with engines larger than 2.5 liters exported from the United States.
