India’s natural rubber production in April fell

India Rubber Board (RubberBoard) said that India’s natural rubber production in April fell 11.8% to 45,000 tonnes.

Data show that India 2014/15 annual natural rubber output fell 15.4%, to 655,000 tons, the production decline was mainly due to the main producing areas of heavy rainfall and crop damage.

But India rubber consumption last year increased by 3.7%, to 1018,185 tons. The decline in production in the country, coupled with the downturn in the global market rubber prices, prompting the Indian tire manufacturers to increase imports.

The Indian government last week announced that from June to natural rubber import duty from 20% to 25%, in order to stimulate the tire manufacturer in India to increase domestic procurement efforts.
