Beijing motor vechiles further restricted because of air pollution

To protect the public’s health and erase air pollution, Beijing Emergency Response Office issued news on 18:00, 7 December that the level of alert for heavy air pollution is raised from orange to red, which means Beijing will start red alert for heavy air pollution from 7:00, 8 December to 12:00, 10 December. This is Beijing’s first time to start red alert for heavy air pollution.

Currently, weather conditions of some areas in North China tend to be steady and regional air pollution has appeared. Besides, Beijing’s weather comes steady, with weakening cold air, increasing humidity, rallying temperature and increasing temperature inversion. The air quality is maintained on a heavy pollution level. According to Beijing Municipal Environmental Monitoring Center‘s latest weather forecast, the heavy air pollution will last for 10 days. After 10 days, the air quality will gradually turn around in the afternoon, influenced by the cold air.

In accordance with Beijing Heavy Air PollutionContingency Plan, the heavy air pollution alert is raised from orange to red.

Recently, Beijing starts the orange alert for heavy air pollution on 0:00, 7 December. All districts and units have made arrangements for correspondence. After this alert raise, tackling measures will be strengthened.Kindergartens, primary and middle schools are suggested to suspend class. Enterprise and institution units may adopt a flexible schedule. Motor vehicles (except BEVs) will be restricted based on odd or even license plates in the city, among whichan additional 30% of the total official vehicles are restricted. Public transportation operation departments will extend operating periods and strengthen transportation protection. Construction waste transporting vehicles, concrete mixer trucks, sandstone transporting vehicles and other heavy vehicles are forbidden to drive on the road. Construction sites are forbidden of outdoor field operation. Road cleanup work is strengthened. Industrial enterprises will limit and halt production according to the red alert production limitation and halt list. Fireworks, firecrackersand outdoor barbecues are also forbidden.
