Nearly 200 chemical firms shut down in Jiangsu province

Nearly 200 chemical firms have recently been shut down in Jiangsu province, east China, under the strict requirements by the Jiangsu provincial government.

Suzhou city, one of the most prosperous cities of Jiangsu, saw 36 chemical firms closed in August alone.

All the 36 firms have stopped production, with the equipment and raw materials all or partly dismantled or moved away.

Wuxi city, a neighbor of Suzhou, is in the process of dismantling some 30 chemical firms. Wuxi plans to close some 100 chemical firms by the end of this year, and close 255 chemical firms by the end of 2018.

Nantong city plans to close 121 chemical firms by the end of 2017. In January-September, Nantong shut down some 90 firms, accounting for 70 percent of the city’s annual goal.

Nantong aims to close 193 chemical firms by the end of 2020.
