Four Chinese provinces lift ban on Pickup Trucks entering cities, boosting million-level production

Ten Chinese cities in Hebei province has lifted ban on pickup trucks entering cities, effective from May 1st, making Hebei the fourth Chinese province that allows pickup trucks entering the city area.

According to a work plan released jointly by Heibei Commission of Industry and Information Technology, Heibei Development and Reform Commission and Heibei Public Security Department at the end of this April, 10 Heibei cities including Chengde, Zhangjiakou, Langfang, Baoding, Cangzhou, Hengshui, Xingtai, Handan, Dingzhou and Xinji will lift ban on pickup trucks entering these areas, effective from May 1st, while 3 more cities including Shijiazhuang, Tangshan and Qinhuangdao will also gradually allow pickups’ appearance since October 1st.

Besides Hebei, the first 3 Chinese provinces including Liaoning, Henan and Yunnan are also acting actively to further implement governments’ decision to lift ban on pickups. Yunnan province has released a notice on the pilot program to lift ban on pickups within the province in the bid to boost pickup sales this March. Liaoning province has deployed a multi-layer approach to gradually lift ban on pickups based on road condition, traffic flow and the commuting demands of residents in the urban-rural fringe zone. And Henan province has conducted a series of intense researches on the pilot program.

Yang Zaishun, the associate general secretary of China Passenger Car Association, believed that the pilot programs in these four provinces foreshadow an upcoming nationwide policy on pickups in cities and this new policy will boost the production and sales of pickups in Chinese market.
