New MIIT list for new energy vehicles announced

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has announced its third list of new energy vehicles exempt from the purchase tax, the Beijing Business Today reported today. The list introduces 17 new passenger automobile models. Currently there are 377 new energy vehicles in the list, with 68 being passenger automobiles. To date, all of the vehicles on the list have been domestic models; not a single import has made the list yet.

The previous two lists saw the introductions of 23 and 28 new energy passenger automobile models, respectively. The new entries to the list are split into two major groups: pure electric vehicles, like the BAIC EV200 (pictured above) and additional JAC Heyue iEV models, and plug-in electric hybrids like the Brilliance BMW 530Le (pictured below), the only joint venture branded model on the list.

According to official production statistics from the MIIT, a total of 9,728 new energy automobiles were produced in China in November, up tenfold from a year ago. 7,932 of these are of models on the tax exemption lists, constituting 81.5 percent of the month’s total production volume.
