Brail issued new technical standard for auto batteries

Recently, Brazil national metrology, standardization and industrial quality organization ( INMETRO ) released a resolution about setting up new technical standard for lead-acid batteries and batteries for starting automobile and motorcycle's internal combustion engine.

This standard requires that the batteries must keep clean, dry and free of damage, and having no electrolyte residue. Logos or labels of the batteries, which contains information of manufacturer's or importer's name, address and tax NO. Country of origin, the manufacturer of imported battery's address and certificate, trade name ( brand ) and production date, must be in Portuguese.

Moreover, the following information must be included: rated voltage; rated capacitance in condition of 25 degrees Celsius (calculated by ampere-hour ), alternate capacitive current per munite in the instance of 25 degrees Celsius, cold start current, battery technology classification, consumer information service, the information about the appropriate way to process used battery, health and environment related risks remind, and certification. Battery must comply with the technical standards as well as the number of net kilogram weight .

It is worth of notice that, if the battery's actual weight exceeds or falls below the stated weight on the mark / label by 5%, the battery will be considered as unqualified by the Brazil authorities.

In additional, calculated by weight, battery's mercury content may not exceed 0.005%, cadmium content no more than 0.010%, and at the same time the products must comply with other requirements.
