China solicits public opinions on auto product recall mechanism

China's State Council, or the Cabinet, began on Friday soliciting public opinions regarding its latest revised regulation concerning automotive product recalls, as part of its efforts to better regulate the after-sale segment of auto industry and safeguard the personal and property safety of consumers.
The revision was drafted by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine based upon the existing auto recall regulation.

The revision stipulates that auto producers shall establish archives to record the information concerning automotive products as well as their first-time buyers, which shall be kept for at least ten years.

According to the regulation, companies should immediately halt production, selling, and importing of automotive products that are found defective.

The companies shall take measures to quickly contact relevant consumers and conduct inspections and replace the defective parts.

Quality control departments are also required to publicize verified recall information without delay, according to the regulation.
