China develops homegrown standard testing tires

The second working conference for the application of standard testing tires and examination of relevant standards was held in Weihai, Shandong province.

The conference was organized by the Chemical Metrology and Control Division of China Metrology Association, and experts from tire standard, tire certification and tire testing field inspection sectors, as well as tire producers.

The theme of the conference was to introduce the progress of China’s C1, C2, C3 standard testing tire programs and to exam the standard documents of standard test tires.

Staff from Triangle Group and Hangzhou Zhongce Rubber explained the relevant documents concerning the standard test tires.

Experts reviewed the documents and proposed some amendments and suggestions, and fully affirmed the progress of the development of the standard test tires.

In the next, relevant parties will submit the standard testing tire technical specifications for approval, and produce, store and sell the standard testing tires.

Chinese authority has been working on the homegrown standard testing tires to address technical barriers and to increase domestic tires’ grip performance on wetlands and snowfields.

Internationally, people contrast standard testing tires’ performance on wetlands and snowfields to test their grip performance. Currently, those standard testing tires are produced by Michelin as unified standards.

Multinationals rolled out a number of rules to quantify and classify the rolling resistance, grip performance on wetlands and snowfield, running noise and other performances of tires, and requested for identification through unified labels.

It brings huge pressure on the development of China’s tire industry. China’s tire companies have to spend a lot of manpower and resources to deal with the market access system.

Under such circumstances, Chinese authorities decided to produce China’s homegrown standard testing tires.

After strict assessment and selection, Triangle Group was appointed to develop the C1, C2 standard testing tires, while Hangzhou Zhongce Rubber was to develop C3 standard testing tires.
