Tokyo stocks open higher as yen's retreat lifts exporters

Tokyo stocks opened higher Monday, as the yen's retreat against the U.S. dollar lifted exporter issues.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 108.25 points, or 0.49 percent, from Friday to 22,414.73.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 9.89 points, or 0.64 percent, at 1,562.22.

Marine transportation, rubber product and machinery-oriented issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell. Enditem
