Tokyo Commodity Exchange (TOCOM) futures fell on Monday, tracking weak Shanghai futures. The benchmark TOCOM rubber contract for December delivery finished 0.6 yen ($0.0056) lower at 184.5 yen per kg. The most-active rubber contract on the Shanghai futures exchange for September delivery fell 30 yuan ($4.36) to finish at 10,715 yuan per tonne. TOCOM's technically specified rubber (TSR) 20 futures contract for January delivery remained unchanged at 153.1 yen per kg.
The front-month rubber contract on Singapore's SICOM exchange for August delivery last traded at 143.2 US cents per kg, up 0.9%. The US dollar was quoted around 107.85 yen, compared with around 107.7 yen on Friday afternoon. Oil prices rose more than 2% on Monday on concerns that Iran's seizure of a British tanker last week may lead to supply disruptions in the energy-rich Gulf. Japan's benchmark Nikkei stock average was down 0.23%.
