Tokyo Commodity Exchange (TOCOM) futures reversed early gains to settle lower on Tuesday. The benchmark TOCOM rubber contract for September delivery finished 0.3 yen ($0.0027) lower at 189 yen per kg. The most-active rubber contract on the Shanghai futures exchange for September delivery rose 5 yuan ($0.7444) to finish at 11,540 yuan per tonne.
TOCOM's technically specified rubber (TSR) 20 futures contract for October delivery closed down 1.2 yen at 168.6 yen per kg. The front-month rubber contract on Singapore's SICOM exchange for May delivery last traded at 151 US cents per kg, down 0.1 percent.
The US dollar was quoted around 111.87 yen, compared with around 111.93 yen on Monday. Oil prices hit 2019 highs on Tuesday after Washington announced all Iran sanction waivers would end by May, pressuring importers to stop buying from Tehran. Japan's benchmark Nikkei stock average was up 0.19 percent.
