Chinese automobile imports in 2014 exceed 1m mark

At the recently-held 11th China Imported Auto Forum, an official report detailing the status of the Chinese import automobile market from 2014 to 2015 were released, the Beijing Times reported today.

According to the statistics in the report, China imported a total of 1.05 million new automobiles over the first nine months of the year. That figure represented year-on-year growth of 26.2 percent. The country has imported 110,000 vehicles on average a month. A total of 980,000 imported automobiles have been registered so far. Imported automobile sales are expected to grow around ten percent next year.

Imported SUVs sales over the above time period exhibited year-on-year growth of 29.3 percent, compared to respective growth of 22.8 percent and 17.5 percent for imported sedans and minivans. According to the statistics, 91.6 percent of the imported automobiles sales have been of vehicles with engines 3.0 L or smaller. Regionally speaking, 44.7 percent of the sales have come from the south, west and northwest of the country, while sales from the traditional powerhouses of east and northeast China have decreased.
