Over 9700 new energy automobiles sold in China in November

According to statistics from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China produced a total of 9,728 new energy automobiles in November. The number is ten times higher than figures of last November. Statistics also show that a total of 56,700 new energy automobiles were sold from January to November, nearly five times higher than production volumes from a year ago.

As the Chinese new energy automobile market is still relatively immature, the bulk of recent sales growth has come from demand from the public transportation sector. The amount of consumer new energy automobile sales remain relatively low. According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, sales from private consumers account for only half of all new energy automobile sales in the country.

Analysts point out that the few consumers of new energy automobiles may be much more attracted by recent government-sponsored subsidies than the vehicles’ actual characteristics.

The BYD Qin (pictured) is one of the most successful new energy automobiles in the country. The car’s sales for the sole month of September totaled 1,700 units, with 1,212 of those sales coming from the Shanghai region. Shanghai-based buyers of the Qin can enjoy free license plate registrations, which has significantly benefited the model’s sales in the region.
