China's sales of sport-utility vehicles (SUV) came to 164,300 units in August, up 1.37% month on month and 24.46% year on year, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).
During the first eight months of this year, a total of 1.27 million SUVs were sold across China, a robust surge of 30.74% year on year.
SUV sector has been outperforming China's overall auto market in the past few years, with annual growth posting double-digit rates.
In late July, the CAAM lifted its estimates of China's full-year SUV sales to 2.07 million units in 2012, which will be a year-on-year growth of 30%.
