Auto imports via Tianjin port surges in 2011

Tianjin port in northern China posted strong growth of auto imports in 2011 thanks to rigid demand for mid and high-end vehicles, said the local customs office.
Auto imports via Tianjin port totaled 385,000 units in 2011, up 8.5 percent year on year, with value surging 24.7 percent to 14.46 billion US dollars.

Vehicles imported via Tianjin port were mainly from the European Union, Japan, and South Korea. Auto imports from the three source regions came to 144,400 units, 87,000 units, and 70,000 units respectively, in 2011.

The combined auto imports from the three regions accounted for 78.2 percent of the total auto imports handled by Tianjin port last year.
