China imported a total of 104,074 automobiles in August, Beijing Business Today reported today, citing figures from China Automobile Trading. The figure represents year-on-year growth of 20.05 percent. Passenger automobiles constituted 11,798 of the vehicles imported during the month, 20.97 percent greater than the amount imported last August.
August marks the third month that automobile imports in the country broke the 100,000 units. Despite this, Wang Cun, head of CATC's marketing and sales division, points out that sales growth in the import market as a whole is contracting, with dealership promotions on the rise. Although the market is more promising now than in past months, dealership inventories levels are still very high, which will influence import volumes in the months to come.
